JOHN 9 | I Once Was Blind

  2. Read & Discussion Questions:
    1. Read John 9:1-2
      1. Why do the disciples ask this question? What did people think about those with disabilities at this time?
    2. Read John 9:3, then Read Luke 13:1-5
      1. In these passages, unfortunate things happen to people, but Jesus is teaching that it is not necessarily someones specific sin that is at fault. Sometimes tragedy happens that is not anyones specific fault. How does this reveal the broken and fallen world we live in?
    3. Read John 9:3-12
      1. While the people look for the cause of the man’s blindness, Jesus tells them to look for God’s purpose through it. How do we tend to look for the cause and blame in bad situations?
      2. Calvin said, “If you are looking back you can’t move forward.” How does this apply to our lives?
      3. How does God use dark periods and difficult circumstances to grow us?
    4. Read John 9:13-41
      1. How does the Pharisees refusal to admit their blindness prevent them from being healed spiritually?
      2. How do we do this in our own lives?
      3. Read Matthew 5:3-6. What is the main characteristics of each person described in this passage? (They know and admit their need)
      4. In what situation do you need to acknowledge and admit your need?
